I design and build websites in Next.js: e-commerce, events, studios and early-stage brands. Fast, accessible, and finished to the same standard on a phone as on a desk.

About me

Designer and developer

The Studio site, one of the projects in this portfolio

I design and build websites end to end, which means nothing is lost in a handover and what you approve is what ships. Mostly for small teams and early-stage brands who need something fast, readable on a phone, and editable by whoever comes next.

Building considered
digital products

Four things I am asked for most. Most projects are two of them, and a rebuild is usually all four.

  1. 01

    Web design

Layout, type and motion, designed in the browser rather than handed over as a flat file. What you approve is what ships.

    • Layout, type and motion designed in the browser
    • Designed against real copy, never lorem
    • Signed off on the thing that ships, not a flat file
The Smay site, designed in the browser
  2. 02

    Development

Next.js and GSAP. Server-rendered, accessible, and fast on the connection your visitors actually have.

    • Next.js, server rendered
    • GSAP for scroll and entrance motion
    • Accessible markup and keyboard order
    • Fast on the connection your visitors actually have
A scroll section from the Clipper site
  3. 03

    Bilingual builds

Full English and French, routed and translated properly, with the switcher landing on the page you were already reading.

    • Routed and translated, not machine-swapped
    • Both languages indexed separately
    • The switcher lands on the page you were reading
Essentials by Dee, which ships in English and French
  4. 04

    Rebuilds

An existing site taken apart and put back together: same brand, faster, and maintainable by whoever comes next.

    • Existing site taken apart and re-made
    • Same brand, faster and maintainable
    • Content migrated rather than retyped
Gloobies, rebuilt across twenty four pages

How a project runs

Typically five to six weeks
Two projects at a time

  1. 01

    Scope

A call, then a written page: what the site has to do, what it does not, and what it will cost. Nothing starts before that page is agreed.

    Week 1
  2. 02

    Structure

Pages, sections and real copy, before any design. Most arguments about a layout turn out to be arguments about what the page is for.

    Week 1–2
  3. 03

    Design and build

Designed in the browser, so there is no handover and no gap between the mockup and the thing. You see it on a real URL from the first week.

    Week 2–5
  4. 04

    Ship and hand over

Deployed, indexed, and walked through with whoever will maintain it. You get the repository and the ability to change your own copy.

    Week 5–6
