Build it so the next person can change it

A site only you can edit is a dependency you sold your client, not a deliverable.

The test of a handover is not whether the files arrived. It is whether somebody else has since changed something without calling you.

What makes that possible

  • Every string in one content file, so a copy change is one edit and not a hunt
  • Design values as tokens, so a colour or a size moves once rather than forty times
  • Comments that record the decision, never the syntax — why the tracking is minus three percent, not that this line sets tracking
  • One motion layer driven by attributes on the markup, so a section can be added without touching animation code

The comment rule matters more than it looks. A comment explaining what a line does is noise to anyone who can read the language. A comment explaining why a value is unusual is the only thing standing between the next developer and reintroducing the bug you just fixed.

If your client cannot change their own opening hours without you, that is not job security. It is a bug.
